WELCOME

Welcome to Kennedy Little League’s home on the web.

Since 1979, KLL has provided a safe place for youth in the McFarland, Monona and LaFollette school districts to play softball and baseball.  Friendships are formed and life lessons are learned here; and somewhere along the way a game or two of baseball and softball are played as well.

If you are new to the area and want to find out more about our program, feel free to explore our website.  Many of our families consider the ballpark their “second summer home”, you too may find we are just what you are looking for.

Weekend Update
by posted 05/17/2013

What a great weekend of baseball, despite a cool start on Saturday morning!  Thanks to all the players, coaches and parents who helped get kids photographed on Saturday and Wednesday.  Empire Photography spent many hours here throughout the two days to take photos of our players.  A link should be sent to you from Empire, so be on the lookout for it.

Here is a general link to the photographs KLL Photos by Empire Photography that you can share with grandparents, etc.  You will be able to search by league and player name.

So far we have sold over 100 tickets to the Brewers games so the tickets are HALF GONE.  If you plan to go to Little League Night, please get your tickets quickly.

We have sold over 30 tickets to the Mallards!  Keep up the good work, and order soon!

If you have NOT YET TURNED IN your Delights fundraiser paperwork, please email me ASAP to make arrangements. Delivery of all orders will be mid-June, an exact date will  be announced as soon as we tally all the order forms.

The Stark Chevy raffle is off to a booming start.  As a reminder, tickets and money are due back by May 29 to the concession stand to enter your team into a team drawing.  If teams return all 25 of their ticket stubs and money , then four lucky teams are eligible for a team party at an area restaurant.  And someone may win a Chevy Traverse or Malibu!   Tickets are $5 each.  Additional tickets are available at the concession stand.  The actual promotion deadline is June 29, so we’ll gladly accept stragglers.  All the money goes right to park improvements at Kennedy so sell some tickets.

As a reminder, please remember to check the website if the weather looks sketchy and we will post cancellations and makeups there.

Make it a great weekend of baseball!

After a rainy start, it turned out to be a great weekend of baseball play!  We hope you had a chance to check out the new weekend additions to our concession stand menu – Arby’s roast beef sandwiches.  Please do check them out!

The weather looks like it may cool down a little bit over the next 4 days, so remember to dress warmly for the ball park.  If you need another layer, please check out the fan wear that includes sweatshirts, nylon windbreakers and long sleeve dri-fit shirts.

Keep watching for KLL Park improvements.  Two of the three new bleachers have been installed, the Big Diamond press box is getting closer to completion.  We are waiting fro MG&E to complete a site survey, then we will sign a contract for parking lot lights.

Reminder about season-end tournaments:  Major and Federal Baseball are scheduled for the weekend of June 22, Minor, BP6 and BPM7 will play the weekend of June 29.

All Star Tryouts are Wednesday June12 – more information to come.

Please remember that this Saturday is PHOTO DAY at the ballpark for our baseball players and we are in the process of scheduling the softball girls on May 15.   The baseball photo schedule is online and posted on the bulletin board outside the concession stand. Stay tuned for updates on softball.
Please also turn in your Delights fundraiser envelopes to the concession stand on May 11.
Remember to order your Little League Night at Miller Park tickets right from our website.  Tickets are going really quickly.  So far we have sold 80 of our allotted tickets, and we only have 200 allotted to KLL.  The kids will have a chance to walk the ball diamond with their teams and show their KLL spirit!
The Mallards game is right around the corner and always a good time for KLL families.  Remember to check our website for those tickets as well.

See you at the ball park!

Baseball and Softball Bats Explained
by posted 01/04/2013

There are hundreds of baseball and softball bats out there for purchase. They come in a variety of types, sizes and weights.

Generally all bats will be of 3 different types. These being Alloy, Composite, or a combination of Alloy and Composite.

Bats also come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and weights. The length of the bats ranges from 26” to 36”. The weights range from 11 oz all the way to 30+ oz. The length and weight most often is indicated on the knob or end of the handle of the bat.

Bats also are referenced by their “drop”. The drop is usually noted on the barrel of the bat indicated by a “minus” number i.e -11.

The “drop” is the difference between the length and the weight of the bat. A 32” bat with a drop of -10 would weight 22oz. for example.

Bats also come in a variety of diameters measured at the barrel. These are 2 ¼”, 2 5/8” and 2 7/8”.

Lastly there may be another rating decal on the bat. This would be the BPF or Bat Performance factor. This is a safety rating that indicates that the bat was tested in the factory so that a ball will bounce off the bat at a specified rate (mph) measured against a pitch of a specified velocity (mph). Generally you will see a rating of 1-15 or 1.20 BPF.

So what does this all mean when it comes to the official Little League Rules?

For all Kennedy Little League’s Beginning Machine Pitch up to Major level leagues, all bats shall not be more than thirty-three (33) inches in length nor more than two and one-quarter (2¼) inches in diameter. Non-wood bats shall be labeled with a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.15.

For all Kennedy Little League’s Junior level leagues, all bats shall not be more than 34 inches in length; nor more than 2 5/8 inches in diameter. All composite bats shall meet the Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR) performance standard by being labeled so with a silkscreen or other permanent certification mark.

A list of all bat rules and regulations as well as a list of approved bats can be found on the official Little League Web Site www.littleleague.org
